The following is an alphabetical list of 184 musicians and ensembles with whom/which Frank Wess recorded over an illustrious 70 year career. Although he spent over a decade as a member of the Count Basie Orchestra, he was always in demand and worked with some of the most recognized names in jazz and show business as well as young, up and coming artists. One notable exception is Duke Ellington. Except for the First Time! The Count Meets the Duke session of July 6-7, 1961 (where Wess was part of the Basie band) there appear to be no examples of Wess ever having substituted for any of Ellington’s saxophonists or otherwise performed with Ellington.
